Camber Sands Holiday Cottages

Our holiday cottages are in two places by the sea: on White Sand, a short walk from the dunes at Camber, and at Jury’s Gap, about two minutes from the beach steps. Rye is 3.8 miles by road from White Sand, about 8 minutes, and 5.6 miles from Jury’s Gap, about 11 minutes. The cottages sleep from two to nine and dogs are welcome in almost all of them. You book direct with us at Beside the Sea Holidays: local hosts since 2009, with 1,000+ Google reviews at a 4.9 average.

Explore Camber Sands

The beach, the dunes and the marsh
Camber is a small, quiet village on the East Sussex coast, around 4 miles from Rye. On one side there are miles of sand and dunes; on the other, the open sheep country of Romney Marsh.

History on the doorstep
Rye, one of the old Cinque Ports, is a short drive away: cobbled streets, a church tower you can climb for the view, and plenty of places to eat. Dungeness and Romney Marsh make an easy day out too.
Camber Sands

A wide sandy beach backed by dunes. From 1 October to 30 April dogs can go anywhere on it; from 1 May to 30 September they have their own signed stretches.

Medieval Rye

Perched on a hill above the lowlands of Romney Marsh is the beautiful town of Rye, its past woven with seafaring tales of naval battles, lifeboat heroics and smuggling. Explore the labyrinth of cobbled streets steeped in history, with a thriving market, independent antique shops and great pubs and restaurants serving famous Rye Bay scallops, Dover sole and Dungeness prawns.

Most of our cottages are on White Sand, built as a modern take on a fishermen’s village in brick and blue-and-white weatherboarding. The rest are at Jury’s Gap, along the coast, beside the beach steps.

Staying near Rye

How far is Camber Sands from Rye?

From our White Sand cottages in Camber it’s 3.8 to 3.9 miles by road to the Fishmarket Road car park in Rye, about 8 minutes, and from the Coastguard Cottages at Jury’s Gap it’s 5.6 miles, about 11 minutes. The Stagecoach 100 bus stops in Camber and at Jury’s Gap on its way to Rye. Times can change, so check the live route 100 timetable before you set off.

Are there self-catering cottages in Rye itself?

Yes, Rye has holiday lets of its own. Ours are all near the beach, at Camber and Jury’s Gap a few miles out of town, so you can spend the morning on the sand and the evening in Rye.

Can I walk or cycle from Camber to Rye?

Yes. From White Sand it’s 3.0 to 3.1 miles on foot, just over an hour and mostly flat, on the traffic-free National Cycle Route 2 path beside Camber Road. From Jury’s Gap, add about 2 miles along Lydd Road into Camber first. It’s a cycle route, so it works just as well by bike.

Are your cottages near Rye dog-friendly?

Almost all of them, with up to three dogs per stay. Most have an enclosed garden, though enclosed means fenced or walled rather than escape-proof, so check the cottage page if your dog is a climber or a digger. From 1 October to 30 April dogs can go anywhere on Camber Sands; from 1 May to 30 September they have their own signed stretches. The beach at Jury’s Gap is open to dogs all year.

What a great find. We stayed at the end of September for a week away with our two dogs and it was exactly what we'd hoped for.

We wanted somewhere that felt peaceful and slightly removed from everyday life without having to travel too far from London, and this was pretty much perfect. Being able to get straight out onto the enormous beaches was brilliant, particularly for the dogs, and much of the time it felt as though we had the beach almost to ourselves.

The accommodation was lovely, comfortable and had everything we needed. Sitting out in the garden was really pleasant and added to the feeling of being able to properly switch off. I particularly loved the view from the bedroom across the marshes. Rather unexpectedly, my partner loved looking out towards the wind turbines and pylons too, although as she works in the energy industry perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised!

I'd never been to Camber or really explored this part of the country before, so I went with very few expectations. Rye was a real surprise and an absolute gem, and somewhere we really enjoyed discovering while we were there.

We came away really impressed with the whole area. We'll definitely be returning and would absolutely consider staying here again.

The Rock is a very comfortable property with everything we could have wished for.  The property is nicely located for the beach at Camber Sands.  We highly recommend the William the Conqueror pub at Rye Harbour, but found the Owl in Camber to be somewhat disappointing and rather over-priced in terms of the quality of the food they served.

I stayed at the Coastguard Cottage for a few days break.
It was a home away from home.
The location was fantastic with close proximity to the beach for daily walks into Camber with my dog.

We booked a short break with Beside the Sea Holiday Cottages and had a wonderful time. The online guide gave us all the information we needed to plan and enjoy our break, including suggestions of places to visit and the videos on how to operate the kitchen appliances which were a great help. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Communication with the hosts was welcoming and helped us make the most of our visit. Incredible cosy comfort was ours at The Surf Shack in October when strong winds buffeted around outside. The most comfortable of King Sized beds supported two great night's sleep after days out in Rye and Dungeness. Great location next to be beach and very comfortable house. The hosts are very accommodating and available.
The house has items we didn’t expect to find like condiments for cooking, milk and we even had a cake and cookies.
In low season this was ideal for a short break, quiet and with great walks on the beach for all, the two and the four legged ones.

Just back from an Autumnal weekend.  We were so lucky with the weather, and enjoyed sunrises from the attic room, sunsets on the beach, breakfast in the garden which was full of twittering  birds and driftwood and a real suntrap.  At the end of each day the cosy kitchen and living room were perfect. Comfy beds and I opted for the single just to hear the waves crashing at night. We were on a wildlife trip, and it did not disappoint from the front door step we watched a Barn owl and a Whimbrel murmuration. What an absolute little gem of a place to find
We had a lovely weekend at The Hide celebrating a family birthday.
The house is nothing but perfection had everything we needed was in a beautiful location walking distance to the stunning beach and the fantastic Harry’s restaurant.
The hosts from start to finish have been so helpful and welcoming.
Our late check out was the icing on the cake to end our stay.
Will be coming back for sure and will be spreading the word the The Hide is a must see place.
