Camber Sands at first light is all soft colours, tide lapping the shore and gulls wheeling overhead – often with hardly another soul around.

Wandering Rye’s storybook streets

Just a short hop from Camber, Rye is made for hand‑in‑hand exploring.

Cobbled streets, crooked beams, hidden courtyards and cafes where you can linger over cake and a pot of tea. Climb St Mary’s tower for huge marsh and sea views, then duck into a low‑beamed pub when the sea breeze gets a bit too bracing.

Whether you’re vegan, veggie or just very, very fond of a good pudding, you’re in safe hands here.

Wake to the sound of the wind over the dunes, then stay in your pyjamas with the fire lit and the tellybox on. If you do venture out, a brisk beach walk makes that hot chocolate back “home” taste even better.
