Romantic getaways beside the sea
Slipping away to the coast together doesn’t need to be complicated.
Just you, your favourite person, the salty spray, and a cosy bolthole a short stroll from the dunes.
Here at Camber Sands and nearby Rye, you can press pause on real life, swap alarms for rolling waves, and let someone else worry about the WiFi password (that’s us).
Seaside boltholes made for two
Our romantic cottages near Rye & Camber are made for lazy mornings and late‑night chats.
Think:
-
Cosy lounges with log burners for fireside fizz
-
Big comfy beds with crisp linen and marsh‑misted mornings outside your window
-
Private gardens and decked spaces for stargazing and that “one more glass?” moment
-
Fast WiFi and a smart tv for boxset binges when the weather’s gone full “British seaside”
You’ll find snug one‑bed boltholes and small cottages that feel just right for two – with room for a pooch, if your four‑legged third wheel is part of the plan. Many have off‑road parking and enclosed gardens, and all are within easy walking distance of either the beach, the dunes, or the marsh.
Romantic things to do in Camber & Rye
You don’t have to be wildly organised to have a wildly romantic time. A few simple ingredients go a long way.
Sunrise on the sands
Set the alarm (sorry) and wander over the dunes together.
Camber Sands at first light is all soft colours, tide lapping the shore and gulls wheeling overhead – often with hardly another soul around.
Barefoot paddles, shared flasks of coffee, and that “we really should do this more often” feeling come as standard.
Wandering Rye’s storybook streets
Just a short hop from Camber, Rye is made for hand‑in‑hand exploring.
Cobbled streets, crooked beams, hidden courtyards and cafes where you can linger over cake and a pot of tea. Climb St Mary’s tower for huge marsh and sea views, then duck into a low‑beamed pub when the sea breeze gets a bit too bracing.
Foodie dates by the sea
Whether you’re vegan, veggie or just very, very fond of a good pudding, you’re in safe hands here.
-
Beach‑side suppers and local seafood
-
Cosy Sunday roasts after a windswept walk
-
Vineyards pouring English fizz just a short drive away
Or stay in, raid the local farm shops and delis, and cook up something special back at your cottage – candles lit, storm clouds brewing beyond the windows.
Romantic escapes for every season
Romance doesn’t just belong to summer. (Although a sunset splash together is hard to beat.)
Spring
Wildflowers on the marsh, longer evenings and that first drink outside a pub again. Perfect for gentle bike rides and spotting lambs on Romney Marsh.
Summer
Bare feet, sandy smalls, picnics in the dunes and that delicious moment when you realise you forgot what day it is. Evening swims, BBQs, and late light over Camber Sands.
Autumn
Rye glows amber, woodsmoke hangs in the air and the crowds drift away. Long walks in 1066 Country, vineyard tours, and early nights by the log burner. This is prime “hunker down together” season.
Winter
Storm watching, marsh mists and seriously cosy cottage time.
Wake to the sound of the wind over the dunes, then stay in your pyjamas with the fire lit and the tellybox on. If you do venture out, a brisk beach walk makes that hot chocolate back “home” taste even better.
Which cottage suits your romantic break?
Different couples, different styles of escape. We’ve got options for:
-
Dune‑side stays – hear the sea before you see it, then wander over for sunset strolls
-
Marsh‑view hideaways – huge skies, birdlife and peace for as far as you can see
-
Dog‑friendly cottages – enclosed gardens, easy beach access and a very happy pooch
-
Cosy for two (plus baby) – if it’s your first trip as three, we’ve baby‑friendly spots with cots, highchairs and room for nappies as well as romance
Tell us how you like to spend your days – kitesurfing and vineyard‑hopping, or reading and napping – and we’ll help you choose your perfect base.
Little practicalities (so you can relax)
Because the least romantic bit of a getaway is faffing around with logistics:
-
Many cottages have off‑road parking
-
Most are just a few minutes’ walk from the beach or marsh paths
-
You’ll find fully equipped kitchens, proper heating and cosy throws
-
Several are pet‑friendly (and very prepared for sandy paws)
Arrive, pop the fizz in the fridge, hide your phones in a drawer and let the sea breeze do the rest.
