Yes, dogs are allowed on Camber Sands. Between 1 May and 30 September, dogs aren’t allowed on the stretch between the Western car park and The Suttons, but they’re welcome either side of it: west towards Rye Harbour, and east along Broomhill Sands to Jury’s Gap. Dog Rules at Camber Sands: What You Need to Know
The good news is that dogs are welcome on Camber Sands all year round.
However, during the summer season, there are restrictions on where dogs can go. Here’s a simple breakdown:
- Summer (1 May to 30 September): Dogs aren’t allowed between the Western car park and The Suttons. West of the Western car park towards Rye Harbour, and east of The Suttons along Broomhill Sands to Jury’s Gap, they’re welcome all year.
- Winter (1 October to 30 April): Dogs are allowed everywhere on the beach, with no restrictions.
- Dogs must be kept under control at all times, and owners are expected to pick up after their dogs.
Either side of the no-dogs stretch there’s still plenty of beach, so your dog won’t feel hard done by.
Dog-Friendly Beach Map (Camber Sands)

The map above shows both stretches where dogs are welcome all year: west of the Western car park (Beach Access Point C, the entrance we call Zone C) towards Rye Harbour, and east of The Suttons along Broomhill Sands to Jury’s Gap. In winter, the whole beach is open.
Where Exactly Can Dogs Go in Summer?
In summer, head west from the Western car park towards Rye Harbour, or east past The Suttons along Broomhill Sands. Both stretches are open to dogs all year.
From the Western car park, step onto the beach at Beach Access Point C and turn right: it’s dog-friendly all the way towards Rye Harbour. In summer the beach in front of the Central car park is inside the no-dogs stretch, so with a dog, start at the Western car park or head east past The Suttons along Broomhill Sands.
Driving down for a dog walk? The Western car park is right by Beach Access Point C, where the summer dog-friendly stretch begins. The council charges the same at Central, Old Lydd Road and Western (Rother’s car park charges). With a dog in summer, use the Western car park for the stretch towards Rye Harbour, or the free Broomhill car park, further east, for the stretch towards Jury’s Gap. Our Camber Sands parking guide has every car park compared.
Can Dogs Go on the Whole Beach in Winter?
Yes. From 1 October through to 30 April, there are no dog restrictions at Camber Sands. Dogs can roam the full length of the beach freely.
Winter is arguably the best time to visit Camber Sands with a dog. The beach is quieter, the air is crisp, and you’ll often have miles of sand almost to yourself.
