London Calling

London is where all our kings and queens have called home, oozing with history and iconic architecture – it is without doubt the greatest city in the world. With plenty of free museums and art galleries, there is always something amazing to see and do. It’s impossible to walk a few metres in London without stumbling across a famous monument or place of great historical significance.

The capital has been a major settlement for two millennia, with a history dating back to the Romans who called it Londinium. The city of London contains four World Heritage Sites, the Tower of London, Kew Gardens, the site comprising of the Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey and St Margaret’s Church along with the settlement of Greenwich. This along with the many iconic landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge, St Paul’s Cathedral, Trafalgar Square, Wembley Stadium as well as many more have made London one of the most popular tourist destination in the world.

Since the Romans founded Londinium, the city has survived everything from invasion, the Black Death, the Great Fire of London to the Blitz. It is these monumental events that have shaped London to the city you see today.

For the most incredible views of the capital take a trip on the London Eye, from here you will have grandstand views of the Houses of Parliament where Guy Fawkes plot to assassinate King James I was foiled (it is alleged he used gunpowder from Battle!) Her Majesty’s home, Buckingham Palace, St Paul’s and even Wembley Stadium.

After all this excitement its time to eat and London has something for every taste bud. Smart restaurants, informal gastropubs, superb delis and buzzing cafés, the choice is amazing with cuisine from over 70 countries and over 6,000 restaurants from which to pick from, 45 of which are Michelin-starred so you will not go hungry!

The best thing about a stay here at Beside The Sea is that the capital is only a short train ride away, and with 2 for1 attractions its also great value!
