“Excellent quality in an ideal location” Oct 2015
Sandy Retreat lived up to all our expectations and we enjoyed a very happy and relaxing break.
This was especially rewarding as our original choice of cottage was ruled out at the last minute due to the Environment Agency conducting beach enhancement close to the cottage.
Well done to Richard at Beside the Sea holidays for coming up with such a wonderful alternative at very short notice.
“Fantastic!” Sep 2015
What a gem! Fantastic location, professionally serviced and well maintained property. Everything you could wish for…every little detail has been thought of – right down to the lovely little gifts left for us. Richard is a pleasure to deal with too – responds promptly to any and all queries.
Have booked our next holiday already.
Thank you Richard – it’s been a hassle-free break.
“Very well equipped and well maintained” Aug 2015
The property is ideal for families, situated just five minutes walk from the beach with a secure small back garden and a very quiet neighbourhood. The property is exactly as described on the website and was very clean and the owners had taken the trouble to provide extras eg wifi, computer games ,books and DVDs,the kitchen contained everything we needed right down to foil and greaseproof paper. The letting agents were excellent we needed their help on several occasions and the response was always swift and very polite. Their were eight of us staying in this property and not once did we run out of hot water.
“Great family house in a fantastic location” Aug 2015
We were 8 persons, 4 adults – 4 kids, staying at “Sandy Retreat” for a week in August 2015. The house was very much up to the job, well equipped, clean and tidy. Bedrooms are of a decent size, with two of the rooms well suited for couples. The outdoor space is great, with sunlight for most of the day end evening. Off street parking available just outside the back door. This was our third time visiting the area and booking with “Beside the sea”. Booking experience, and overall service have been super every time, with quick responses to any queries and needs. Highly recommended.
“Beautiful place for a holiday with children” July 2015
Very well equipped cottage ideal for a holiday with children. We (a familiy of 5) came to Camber for the third time and it was the best house we staid in so far! Very helpful manager (Richard). The location (Camber) is ideal to go to the sandy beach (5 mins walk) or to explore Sussex and Kent. A day trip to London by train (from Ashford) will take less than an hour. We certainly will come back again. Christian
“Excellent property and location” June 2015
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property was extremely well equipped and the property manager was very friendly and attentive to our needs. I would recommend Sandy Retreat to any family looking for a relaxing holiday. Jill
“great house in a great location” May 2015
We stayed at Sandy Retreat for a week at the end of May 2015, 4 Adults and 3 children and was ample big enough, the house itself is very well equipped, and was immaculate upon arrival. we will be back again next year. I would absolutely recommend.
We barely touched the surface of the surrounding area, Hastings and Rye are both very nice in different ways. If traveling with children the only thing i would be aware of is that generally the local pubs don’t serve food until 6pm, which caused us a small issue, that said a brilliant family holiday. Mark
“We enjoyed our week very much” April 2015
We enjoyed our week very much – the house is perfect, very well equipped indeed, and were lucky with the weather!!
Thanks also for the nibbles and drink on arrival – it was very much appreciated.
Our children are already saying that they want to go back again next year, so that must be a good sign….. Richard
“Great house, great location, great weekend!” Feb 2015
We stayed at Sandy Retreat for a long weekend with two children under five. The house was clean, fully equipped and beautifully furnished. It was the most family friendly place we have stayed and included step up stools, pushchair, plastic tableware and night lights. The house was spacious yet cosy and we enjoyed evenings in by the fire making use of the DVDs, free wifi and selection of games.
Camber beach was only a five minute walk away as were a small selection of beachside cafes and restaurants. The town of Rye was a 10 minute drive away and was good for exploring, it’s variety of tea rooms and further choice of places to eat. Susan
“Really relaxing break , and what a fabulous beach !” May 2014
We stayed here with our friends for a few days and found the property excellent, the decor was light and fresh and fully equiped , although all our party are retired so didn’t make use of the wiii .Wi Fi was good and there was a useful guide to all the local attractions including the Green Owl pub which served great home cooked food .
We relaxed in the evenings on the decking and made use of the shiny bbq , local farm shop providing the burgers etc.We walked over the dunes most days to find a really lovely beach which is kept nice and clean and the Kit Kat Cafe provides the obligatory ‘ cup of tea ‘.
The beds were soft and comfortable and the bathrooms spotless and we liked the kitchen / diner in prference to lounge / diners which we have stayed in before , seems so much better to retire to the lounge after a hearty meal. All in all a really relaxing stay with a great location, within walking distance of Rye , 5 miles ,which is great for antiques and a lovely church and castle . Will definately be returning. Ward
“really recommend this lovely holiday home” April 2014
We spent a week at Sandy Retreat over Easter with friends and our children, and can really recommend this lovely holiday home. It’s perfectly equipped with everything you need including 2 pushchairs, so we didn’t even pack ours!
Comfy beds, good water pressure in the shower, and a kitchen that had everything we needed to cook for 7 people.
The house location is ideal, Camber Sands is a fantastic beach. We particularly enjoyed kite flying and paddling. We packed a lot into our holiday but were always pleased to arrive back at this lovely house. Maddy
“stay was fantastic” Nov 2013
The stay was fantastic, we really did enjoy it. The kitchen was very well kitted out and we all loved the snuggly electric fire in the living room. Thanks as well for the taxi information, came in handy when we were going to and from Rye. Oh and was very helpful and appreciated having the starter kit – juice, milk, teas etc. Laura

“everything you could possibly want” Aug 2013
Beautifully appointed house, set in a very pretty estate , everything you could possibly want had been thought of, especially if holidaying with children. Furnished to a high standard, Beds and sofas really comfortable. There was all the beach equipment you could need, and the cottage also had board games and toys for the children. The owners had left detailed instructions how to use everything, and also a comprehensive guide to the local area and restaurants.
The beach was lovely and only a 5 walk from the cottage. Camber Sands is very quiet but well located to visit larger towns such as Rye and Hastings. Linda

“It was fantastic!” June 2012
Hi Richard,
It was fantastic! The house was amazing and beyond expectations, everything seemed to have been thought of and provided and it was spotlessly tidy with great quality fixtures and appliances.
We would definitely recommend it to friends and family and would love to stay again ourselves one day. It obviously helped that we had good weather too and were on the beach almost every day – although not always for long!
Everything about our experience of “Beside the Sea” is very positive, from the look and feel of your website to the quality of the property and the little welcome bundle with bread, butter etc and wine!
Thank you!
